Riverlife NYE Kayak Experience
Watch the fireworks from a kayak on the Brisbane River with a guide. Swimmers only, and no drinking before you paddle.
Where to watch the Brisbane New Year's Eve fireworks: South Bank, Kangaroo Point Cliffs, the City Botanic Gardens, Story Bridge views and hilltop lookouts, plus which ones fill first.
Capacity and entry conditions are set by Brisbane City Council, South Bank Corporation and Queensland Police each year. Check official updates on the day, as areas close once they're full. Victoria Bridge and the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge were not available for viewing in 2025.

Skip the picnic-rug scramble: watch from a kayak on the river or from the top of the Story Bridge.

See the fireworks from the top of the Story Bridge itself. Previous years offered an early family climb and a midnight climb.

For the full official show, head to South Bank: Clem Jones Promenade, Riverside Green, the Cultural Forecourt and River Quay put you right on the river.
For the classic skyline shot, the Kangaroo Point Cliffs look straight across the river to the CBD, and Wilson Outlook Reserve gives you a little extra height.
To be close to the Story Bridge, try Captain Burke Park, the Eagle Street riverwalk or the Howard Smith Wharves lawns. In 2025 fireworks launched from Howard Smith Wharves, right beside the bridge.
For space and a quieter night, go up high: Mt Coot-tha Lookout, Highgate Hill Park or Victoria Park show the whole city, with the fireworks smaller but complete.
Out of the city, Manly Harbour on the bayside has run its own early and midnight fireworks in past years. Redcliffe has not had public foreshore fireworks recently because of shorebird protections.
With kids, make the early fireworks your main event, and pick a spot close to food, toilets and a Translink stop.
South Bank Parklands is the official hub. Clem Jones Promenade, Riverside Green, the Cultural Forecourt and River Quay are the recommended spots. Other popular free vantage points are the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, the City Botanic Gardens, Captain Burke Park under the Story Bridge, the Eagle Street riverwalk, Wilson Outlook Reserve and, for a full skyline panorama, the Mt Coot-tha Lookout. For a guaranteed spot, book a riverfront dinner, party or NYE cruise.
Yes. The Lord Mayor's New Year's Eve Fireworks at South Bank are free and you don't need a ticket. South Bank has bag checks and a banned-items list (glass, alcohol, sharp items, unsealed drinks, scooters, bikes, pets, marquees and large structures). Queen's Wharf also had free, limited-capacity viewing in 2025 on a first-in basis.
In 2025 the fenced South Bank area opened at 9am, and the best riverfront spots fill through the afternoon. Areas close once they reach capacity, and in 2025 the area around the Brisbane sign at the Cultural Forecourt was closed. Kangaroo Point Cliffs and the City Botanic Gardens are popular too, so arrive by late afternoon for a good patch of grass.
Not to South Bank. South Bank Parklands is an alcohol-free site on New Year's Eve, except for people dining in a licensed restaurant or bar. Drinking in public places is generally not allowed in Queensland, and glass is banned at South Bank. If you want a drink with your fireworks, book a licensed venue, party or cruise.
October to December is when Brisbane searches for its New Year's Eve plans. Get your event in front of them for $599 flat, with no commission.
